Hi, i search and read a lot of about this topic but i can't find nothing to solve the problem. I want to have guest conected to internet via bridged mode but i can't conect to the net.

Host: Windows XP
Guest:Windos 98

Seems all drivers less internet configuration are ok for now, sound works fine, but can't conect to internet. To solve this problem i do the following things:

Open VirtualBox (Sun Mycrosystems Version 3.0.8.) > Open settings > Network >
Enable Network Adapter (On)
Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 T Server (82543GC)
Attached to: Bridged Adapter
Name: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller ... Ok to accept settings...

Run Guest Windows 98
On Virtual Box machine: Devices > Network adapters > Adapter 1 (On)
Into the virtual machine (guest) when i ty to conect to the net i have the following message (but not in english, in my languaje):

Windows try now to detect your modem. > Clic on Next > Windows did not find modem connected to your pc. Click on next to select the modem from a list. > Next >

- Can't find ethernet drivers.
- No driver to manofacurer Intel, model Intel PRO/1000 T

I download and install driver to Intel PRO/1000 T but that no solve the problem.
I ty to download ethernet driver but have a lot of models and i cant found what model must i download.

I visit microsoft support and page tells about install TCP/IP Protocol but it is already installed so this is not the problem.

If i go to Configuration > Control pannel > System > Device Manager
Network adapters have no Intel or Ethernet driver installed.
In Other devices have (?!) PCI Ethernet Controller, in details say it is not installed but i cant install it anyway.

Finally i closed Win 98 and enter in virtual box machine. Settings for win 98 > Network > Adapter 2
Enable Network Adapter (On)
Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 T Server (82543GC)
Attached to: Host-only Adapter
Name: VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter... and Ok. to accept...

Run guest (Win 98) Adapter 1 (Off) Adapter 2 (On) but same problem.
With Adapter 1 (On) Adapter 2 (On) no change, same problem.

I cant solve that, need someone who know virtual box well tell me plz what must i do to solve that ;S

Try the Pcnet Fast 3 Adapter instead of Intel e1000.

I have my doubts with the PCNet3, but try that first, else the PCNet2 is the last option. I'm certain that one works, but it's also quite slow (10 Mbit), so you want to use that as last resort. I haven't got a Win 98 VM, so I'm really not sure about PCnet3.

Attached to: Bridged Adapter
Name: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

Run guest win98
Adapter 1 (On) Adapter 2 (Off)

I changed only this, clic on Internet Explorer but that no solved the problem. Windows try now to detect your modem. > Clic on Next > Windows did not find modem connected to your pc.

Krabillu, you have to run through the Internet Connection Wizard and tell it that you're connecting through a LAN, not a modem. You can find the wizard in Control Panel.

Is the adapter listed in the win98 device manager?

If yes, i think, you must setup the internet access in the guest. Set it to LAN, that should work.

When starts run win98 it detect new Ethernet driver and need windows 98 SE cd to install it. Windows intalled the succesfully the driver.

When i acces to Desktop IE icon was changed as not identified icon.
If i go to Configuration > Control pannel > System > Device Manager
Network adapters have AMD PCNET Family Ethernet (PCI-ISA) installed, but when i clic on the Internet Explorer icon (now showed as non identified icon) show me the same message (Windows try now to detect your modem. > Clic on Next > Windows did not find modem connected to your pc. Click on next to select the modem from a list.)

I can't find AMD PCNET Family Ethernet (PCI-ISA) on the list of intenet manofaturerers - model. So i exit menu and nothing more happensa, so i still can't acces to internet. Every time i clic I Explorer icon the same menu is showed and still can't use internet.

I don't know how to set up LAN.

I go find some information in internet about how to configure LAN. Thx for all, if i need more help i post again.

I told you, go to Control Panel and open the Internet Connection Wizard. In that wizard, tell it that you connect through a LAN.

The "original physical" network speed of the virtual PCNet adapters doesn't say anything about the possible speed in VirtualBox! Even if the virtual PCNet adapter in a guest shows a 10Mbit connection it will use the faster physical connection at almost full speed.

I know, you can get a gigbit connection speed over that 10 Mbit NIC.

I just wanted to make sure that nobody reads your message as "virtual PCNet adapters are slow"

I setup new conexion by LAN. Net works fine now but resolution is poor. I read that in the forum "windows 98 run only in 640x480 resolution, 16-colors. If you want True color or high resolution, you need to download special drivers." and give the follow link

But when i clic download "Universal VBE20 version." the link is browken so not possible have a higuer screen to use windows 98 or have more resolution right?
