Second Life on Windows Guest

I am running VirtualBox on an Ubuntu host on an HP DV7 laptop. I am running Windows XP as a guest, with guest additions (and thus *not* the VirtualBox OSE version).

When I attempt to start the Second Life client in the Windows guest, I get the following message:

"Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers did not install properly, are out of date, or are for unsupported hardware. Please make sure you have the latest video card drivers and even if you do have the latest, try reinstalling them."

Has anyone gotten Second Life to work on a Windows Guest? Has anyone else seen this problem? Where do I look for solution?

Thank you for your help.

You can install the GA in the OSE too, so it doesn't say anything.

Did you install the GA in safe mode, ticked the 3D feature during installation and enabled 3D in the Guest settings?

Hi there. I've just started using VirtualBox, so version 3.2.6 is what i have and i realise this thread has not been touched in over 6 months, but decided it would be best to continue this thread opposed to starting a new one on what i consider the same topic.

I am running with a Win7 Host, and a Win7 guest. I am running Second Life (SL) on the guest, and it runs OK, except i have noticed that it does not work well concerning mouse interaction. I have Guest Additions installed (the latest version as far as i can tell) and have two sets of issues.

When Mouse Integration (MI) is on, i can see the mouse pointer anywhere it sits in the guest window, but the mouse does not behave optimally in SL (lack of camera movement control when Alt+mouse moves the camera view for instance)
When MI is off, the mouse behaves perfectly in SL, except i can no longer see the mouse pointer while it is 'over' the SL window. If i start it on the taskbar, then move it up the screen, it disappears BEHIND the SL window, is the best way to describe it.

Another, i'm sure, related issue - when SL is the active window, if i say click on the IE taskbar icon, where you would normally see the list of IE tabs that are currently open, they too are 'hiding' behind the SL window.

I can organise screen shots if that will help with my maybe confusing descriptions.

Thanks!!!
jesse

EDIT: I tried installing the mouse drivers (microsoft wireless) but that doesn't seem to have helped at all.

This is not exactly the response you are looking for, but it is a workaround.

Second Life now has a client for Ubuntu. VirtualBox is great, but is there some reason you feel compelled to run Second Life through Windows when you can do it natively in Linux?
