People are upset because the images worked just great under virtualbox (aside from some annoyances caused by shared UUIDs) for quite a while -- I used them a lot!

Then, MSFT changed something and they stopped working. Boo.

People needing the IE Application Compatibility VPC Images might try using VMLite (based on VirtualBox) to run the images, OR might try the VMLite XP Mode Plugin for Sun VirtualBox v3.1.2 binaries (x86/amd64).
Both only run on Windows though.

But the whole point of the complaints in this thread are Mac and Linux users can no longer use the images that used to work fine.

And the reason they do not any longer is because Microsoft changed the way they do business. They will only work as they are shipped now. Reactivation is not an option as the key is logged as stolen and will reject any type of activation.

Yea we all know that now, doesn't mean we're happy about it.
I also know that Virtualbox can't do anything in the matter.
