Debian Sid host and Windows XP guest = no sound

Post by derkosak »

Hi,
I'm using Debian sid here, and the virtualbox-ose version that comes with it. Having a virtual disk with winXP ready (from a previous Virtualbox installation in Ubuntu Feisty), I ran it now, and I can't get any sound.
The sound board is recognized as a Intel 82801AA AC'97 board on the guest, and the host sound board is recognized as a ATI SB450 HDA Audio (ALC883 sound board working with ALSA or OSS) .
I tried setting the audio in the virtual machine to use ALSA, OSS and even NULL, just to get the same result: the sound board is recognized by the guest as said above, and all sound controls are disabled.
I tried a solution posted here (somewhere) about downloading AC'97 drivers from Realtek, but it didn't work either.

Anyone has some clue about how to fix it?
TIA!
