Which version of VB supports DirectX 9?

Post by SuperDad »

I'm sorry if this is a stupid, or common question.

I have a WinXP guest running on a Feisty host. I'm just looking to let my kid play some games, but the primary one I want to use requires DirectX 9.0, and I guess there's some kind of bug in VB 1.5 that prevents it from working.

Could I just downgrade to the last version of VB or something? Or do none of them support DirectX?

Thanks

ps Here are the technical specs that I'm trying to meet:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000, Me or XP
Browser: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
CPU Minimum: Pentium III, 500 MHz
CPU Recommended: Pentium III or IV, 1GHz
RAM: 128 MB free
Hard Drive: 1200 MB free
Video: 4 MB Video Card, 16-bit color, 800x600 minimum resolution
Audio: DirectSound 8, 16-bit support
Internet Connection: Broadband, 384Kbps or better
Other: Mouse, DirectX 9.0, Flash 9 or higher

Use native Windows for Games, VMs are not for Games and Multimedia.

With a VMWARE you can start Office Software very well.

Sorry, based on http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/618, I thought it was just a bug in the current version.

My problem is exactly the black screen with regular sound that the others are reporting.

From this comment "When I started to play Tropico, the screen went black. Even though I could not see anything, I could move my mouse around and select items (based upon sounds). This may be related to DirectDraw?? in 1.5.0. I rolled back the video driver to 1.4.0 and everything worked again, without the Seamless feature." I thought maybe I could try an older version too.

Thanks for the info though.
