Windows Installation Hangs

I'm trying to install Windows XP into a virtual machine, and the host system is Linux with a 2.6 kernel. I got it to boot from the CD, and it went through the whole "Setup is inspecting..." process, but it's hanging now that it's gotten to "Setup is starting Windows." No actual error message, just hanging. Any thoughts?
