[WinXP SP2] C&C1 not running

Hi,
I installed Command & Conquer 1 in a
Windows XP guest system.

It is downloadable for free.

I have installed the XP patch
and run C&C1 in Windows 95
compatibility mode.

Everytime I start it I get
the following "error".

Windows XP SP2 is full patched.

Probably because it needs a 256 colour mode, which we don't support yet. We'll probably fix that in the next maintenance release.

Hi,

long story short, is this winxp driver fix for 256colours/8bit still under way?
on some other (older?) thread i read it wouldnt be done cause the demand isnt big enough...
if yes, that would be the best news ever and Ill know to look out for the new version then.

i think that this feature is already in svn, but i haven't a windows develop enviroment,
so if someone could compile it for us would be great.

I believe that the best solution for this problem is: Add legacy hardware emulation (from Qemu devices - video, sound and network) - see bug #524

http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/524

This will automatically solves a wide array of issues for older OSes and Applications. (Win98 video/sound, RedHat Linux 7 video, DOS sound, ... maybe even Solaris networking, Win x64 networking - if in the future VBox will want support x64 guests)

That seems to be the problem, why C&C1 does
not run, but shows this strange "error".
