Setting up Internet connection with Windows XP guest install

Having trouble finding out how to set up my VM for Internet connection. I downloaded: the latest 2.1 for windows 64 bit hosts (1/8/09)

I installed on my VM Guest: XP Pro, installed well enough, launches, shuts down, no other actions since I want to get antivirus and updates first.

My goal: connect to the internet from the Guest machine. I used default configuration settings when installing.

Host: Vista 64bit

I understand what the user guide says VB does, so know that my VM is not recognizing my hardware. I've scoured the user guide and forums and either can't understand the instruction or it's not here.

Can someone point me to the post for regular consumers around this?
Thanks!

Chapter 6 of the manual should explain what you need to know. You have to add a network adapter (for XP, the PCNet is advised because the driver is shipped with it) and attach it to NAT. Now boot the VM and you should have internet. Check the VirtualBox FAQ if you don't (possible cause is a firewall).
You can also select Host Interface, so the VM becomes a part of your network.
