DirectX

Post by diverse_izzue »

Hello,

I'm new to VirtualBox and it's a great piece of software. I installed a Windows XP within Linux that works just fine. Now I was looking forward to play one of my old games, Age of Empires I. The install goes fine, but then it complains that it cannot initialize the graphics system and that I should make sure that the graphics adapter is DirectDraw capable.

Is the virtual graphics card DirectDraw (I'm not even talking Direct3D) capable? If not, can it be made capable?

For short answer: no

For long answer:
Look at Topic: "3D Acceleration Support and why it wont happen anytime soon" in "Using VirtualBox" forum.

We will add basic DirectX (2d) support in the future as some applications require it.
