guest is very slow

Post by jastrzebiec »

Host is a quite fast computer: Pentium i7 3.6 GHz with 8 processors and 16GB memory.
I set guest for the half of that: 8GB RAM and 4 processors.
Host has Windows 10 and guest Windows 11 OS-es.
I noticed that in guest there is a very significant lag in response to the action initialized by the mouse click.
I wonder if there is anything else I can do to speed it up?
Thanks,

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

No, it is not like that.
It is a brand new guest, without any applications installed except Guest Additions.
Anything I click on requires few seconds to open. Windows by itself need about 2 minutes to boot!
And today there is a new problem. Guest window does not show the top bar: File, Input, Device etc.

You're using 7.0.8 Guest Additions, which may have some bugs.

Either use 7.0.6's Guest Additions https://download.virtualbox.org/virtual ... _7.0.6.iso
or the 7.0 test builds Guest additions.

Also, the Extension Pack is way out of date.

I solved menu bar problem. Settings have unchecked that option without asking.

Is the Extension Pack installed per machine or it is general installation for all the machines I have?

The Extension Pack is a separate download on the Downloads page. It isn't necessary unless you need the features it provides.

The Extension Pack is installed in the main Virtualbox window, not in the VMs. See the File menu, Tools popout, Extension Pack Manager.

The main Virtualbox window has to be Run As Administrator to uninstall/change/install the Extension Pack.

The Extension Pack version and main Virtualbox version must match, if the Extension Pack is installed.
