My 64-bit W11 22H2 Home guest VM keeps locking up randomly.

A screen shot of it during WU's reboot. So, it can't be any apps and drivers conflicting in W11?

It can happen in desktop while idling.

I also attached my VirtualBox v7.0.6 logs in a zip file from my updated activated 64-bit W10 Pro 22H2 host PC (didn't get today's updates yet). Also, this issue had been happening for many months. :( I don't have this problem with other Windows guest VMs like old, updated W10 Pro. and W7 HPE SP1 OSes. I used Win11_22H2_English_x64.iso to install it to make a new VM.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

The guest OS is locking up, as distinct from the VM which seems to be fine.

Are you pulling some nasty networking hack inside the VM?

Nope. Just using its default NAT setup (192.168.1.x). The only hack was to install W11 from local Win11_22H2_English_x64.iso file. I don't see how that's network related.

The defect tracker is 1/3 issues with the Win11 video drivers in one form or another. It appears that if you go into the display settings and enable 3d acceleration, it'll start up... And give you a TON of graphic artifacts. In my case, NOTEPAD is a black screen... Seriously, WTF is Notepad doing using 3d effects? The start button context menu is completely transparent, so I hope you use a BRIGHT desktop background...

I was using VBoxSVGA and no 3D acceleration in my 64-bit W11 VM. So I enabled 3D acceleration and retried. No crashes so far! And faster! I can't remember if I disabled it or if VB disabled it by default.

Windows 10 in a VM with 3D enabled had the same thing. The workaround is to disable Transparency Effects in the 10 OS. Probably the same for 11.

Settings > Personalization > Colors > Transparency Effects
Ease of Access > Display > Simplify and personalize Windows > Show transparency in Windows

Ah, my W11 VM isn't tweaked since it's not activated.

The "Ease of Access" path is supposed to be available on non-activated 10. Could you confirm this for us, please?

In my non-activated 64-bit W10 Pro VM, it exists.

Great, thanks for letting us know! Did turning it off clear up the graphics issues?

I never had graphics issue in my W11 VM. I just had hard lock ups. Turning on 3D acceleration seems to fix my random W11's lock up issue.
