Post by Hlech65730 »

Hello @ all,
i run Windows 10 ( 20H2 ) on MacOS HighSierra 10.13.6. Last Version on this OS of Virtual Box is Version 6.1.42 r155177 (Qt5.6.3) with extension pack. I can't change screen resolution anywhere. It is fixed to 1024x768. There are some error message at startup concerning the windows boot manager. Thank You for help !

You should install the Guest Additions in your VM. Please note: Extensions Pack and Guest Additions are 2 different pieces of software.

See https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html for details of installing the Guest Additions.

No need to download the Guest Additions as they are bundled with your VirtualBox installation. To install, give focus to your VM and then choose the option to attach the Guest Additions to your VM in the Devices menu in your macOS menubar.

Hello Granada29,
thank You for the information ! I did it and it runs fine :D !
This is the action :
After you must have successfully installed Windows in a VirtualBox VM, you must install the Guest Additions package for better usability and performance – to perform this task, do the following:

Launch VirtualBox.
Right-click the virtual machine, select the Start submenu.
Next, choose the Normal Start option.
Sign in to your Windows 11/10 account.
Click the Devices menu.
Select the Insert Guest Additions CD image option.
Next, open File Explorer in the virtual machine.
On the left navigation pane, click on This PC.
Under the Devices and drives section, double-click to open the VirtualBox Guest Additions disc.
Next, double-click the VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe file to launch the installer.
Click the Next button.
Click the Next button again.
Click the Install button.
Select the Reboot now option.
Click the Finish button.
The virtual drivers will now install and after the restart, Windows will be able to run normally in a virtual environment. You can follow the same step-by-step instructions above to update the Guest Additions on your Windows 11/10 machine when a new version of VirtualBox is released with more recent drivers.

Hello everyone, I got the same issue here.

I am running VirtualBox-7.0.6-155176-Win + Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.6a-155176 + VBoxGuestAdditions_7.0.6.iso

Hostsystem is Win 11, guest system is Win7, working properly so far. The only issue is the limited resolution of 1.024x768, the host monitor runs on 3.840x2.160
Display options for the guest system are 256 MB RAM, Controller VBoxSVGA, 3D-Accelaeration activated.
The Guest Additions are installed. The resize options are not greyed, but I still can't change them.

I even tried the following Powershell command (.\VBoxManage.exe setextradata "Win7" CustomVideoMode1 1920x1080x32) but it didn't help. Would be great to get some help.

greetings, pcgsw
