Paste into Windows 11 logon box

Post by RobNicholson »

Is there a way to paste the password into the Windows 11 logon box? VMware Workstation has Edit, Paste and some remote control systems have "Type text" functions because the Windows clipboard is available at this time. Typing the password is a right faff as it's randomly generated. I will be setting up a PIN afterwards so not the end of the world. Can probably also access via RDP.

Apologies - won't let me post a link: imgur FJKrHIn.png

If the Guest Additions are installed, and if "shared clipboard" is enabled in the VM settings, and if Windows allows you to paste into the login field, then yes... It should work.

This is the problem - no Windows doesn't allow you to paste into this box hence the reason for the "type text" feature (via Edit, Paste) in VMware Workstation and "Send clipboard as typed text" in the remote control system we use. Guest additions is enabled and it's set to bidirectional. I've scoured the documentation and I'm guessing this feature isn't available. Not the end of the world.

Search the VirtualBox User Manual for "keyboardput". ;)

Edit:
Clarification for posterity:
"keyboardput" is a substring of several words beginning with it. ;)

Nothing found in CHM or online for keyboardput? Do you have a link? Cheers, Rob.

Later... did find something in the link in your profile.

See "VBoxManage controlvm <subcmds>".

And bear in mind that following Fth0's suggestion means you have to log on using a script, and have your login password in plain text in that script.
