WDDM 2 in VboxSVGA driver?

Post by Concrete Gannet »

I am looking into converting an existing Windows 10 VM to Windows 11.

I have enabled UEFI and Secure Boot, but the Windows 11 compatibility testing tool says WDDM 2 is not supported. The dxdiag utility says my current configuration supports WDDM 1.3.

Is support for WDDM 2 planned for the VirtualBox video driver for Windows? If so when might we see it?

Thanks

These are users forums, we are not the devs. And the devs rarely reveal future plans.

Is it a warning or a requirement? I can't really see any reason for a vm to need WDDM 2 - it doesn't use a GPU.

I don't think a display driver with WDDM 2 is necessary to get a Win 11 to install on a VBOX VM, even though that is what non-MS testing programs report is a requirement to upgrade Win 10 to Win 11. I don't think Win 11 requires WDDM 2 display drivers for a virtual machine.

On Win 10, VB 7.04 with a VboxSVGA display driver reports it is a WDDM 1.3 driver. Window's Update reports that it will allow me to upgrade this VM to Win 11.
My Win 11 VM works OK with VBox's 7.04 display driver and reports that the diver qualifies as a WDDM 1.3 display driver (using DXDIAG.EXE).
