Post by Rob F »

Can anyone help? My Win 10 guest consistently aborts 5 to 10 minutes after starting.

Running Version 7.0.0 r153978 in Win 11 Pro 22H2 build 22621.819.
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1185G7 @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz

Log attached.

Many thanks!

Your log contains these lines

Code: Select all

HM: HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM: VT-x is not available
00:00:09.597121 NEM: info: Found optional import WinHvPlatform.dll!WHvQueryGpaRangeDirtyBitmap.
00:00:09.597138 NEM: info: Found optional import vid.dll!VidGetHvPartitionId.
00:00:09.597155 NEM: info: Found optional import vid.dll!VidGetPartitionProperty.
00:00:09.597244 NEM: WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is TRUE, so this might work...
Getting rid of the Windows hypervisor would be my first step. See this tutorial. viewtopic.php?t=99390

00:00:09.056365 VirtualBox VM 7.0.0 r153978 win.amd64 (Oct 6 2022 18:03:10) release log
00:00:09.209932 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:09.209958 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 6.1.36 r152435;
The Extension Pack is mismatched.

I'd try upgrading to both Virtualbox and EP to 7.0.4, as 7.0.0 is brand new and has lots of bugs. 7.0.4 will have bugs too, but less than 7.0.0. Also upgrade the VM's Guest Additions to 7.0.4.

Your VM has two processors, which may help the VM to work OK under active host Hyper-V. But if all else fails, try whacking host Hyper-V per Bill's posted link.

Many thanks to BillG and Scottgus1. I have updated my VB version to 7.0.4. I have tried and failed to remove Hyper-V from my laptop. However, removing Guest additons gives me a stable VM. If I add 7.0.4 Guest additions, my VM crashes and aborts. But at least fro now, I can live without the Guest additions.

Thanks for the feedback! 7.0.4 Guest Additions are giving folks trouble at this moment.
