Weird keyboard issue, unable to fix.

Post by brownharris561 »

I am getting some strange issues with my keyboard and Microsoft office. Whenever I open my office and want to write something then it does not register some taps while writing notes.

But whenever I use my laptop’s keyboard for general use, then I haven't noticed any issue like this.

Is this a software issue? Or hardware? Is there any way to check it?

This could be from a low-provisioned VM.

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Please explain why you think it's a VirtualBox problem.

In fact, please provide a VM log file. Make sure the VM is fully shut down, then right click it in the manager UI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (no other file) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

my keyboard is working perfectly in other PCs. But in VM, it is missing some keys. I've tested it multiple times by using https://keyboardtester.io

I'm unable to find the log file. Just learning VM, i don't know how to find the log file.

My previous post told you where to find the log file.

Hi guys,

I am also experiencing some issue with keyboard. I have attached log files.

VM is MS-DOS 6.22 machine. I have disabled all drivers except CD-ROM driver within VM to eliminate any interactions. When I run Borland C++ IDE editor, after turning on Num Lock and them by pressing combination of Insert/Delete/Up/Down/Left/Right keys, what happens is that when holding Left arrow key I start to see multiple "4" characters being typed instead. Insert key can insert combination of "6666444" or something like this. Then you type regular character keys on keyboard, everything works fine and pressing Insert or arrow key key enter some numeric character. It is very hard to reproduce the combination of key presses, it just start to happen within 1-2 minutes. It seems like keyboard somehow corrupts its layout and start to send wrong key codes or something like this. I have noticed it in other MS-DOS editor (Volkov Commander) so this is was reproducible elsewhere. It seems it happens only when full screen editor is used, on regular MS-DOS command line I have never experienced it.
