Loss of audio-input after VM initiated reboot

Post by Nicolas-MEAE »

Hello all :)

We are encountering a problem with audio input on any flavor/version of Windows 10 or 11 guest, running on any hosts (Debian11 or Windows tested). The problem is easyly reproduced, with or without guest additions installed, on any hardware, with different sound cards.

1) When started, the Windows VM has audio input and output
2) If the VM is "restarted" from within the VM (either user initiated, a Crash, or Windows update), there is no input sound any more (the interface is present, however the input is silent, like muted)
3) If we properly shutdown the VM, and then start it over, the audio input is back... untill the next reboot.
4) We tested many versions of Virtualbox, and the problem appeared first with version 6.1.28 (therefore was fine until 6.1.26) and the problem exists in any subsequent version : 6.1.30, 61.32, 6.1.34 so far.
5) We created a bug tracker #20932 and submited extended audio logs for both a version with the problem (6.1.30) and a version without the issue (6.1.26) ; the difference could be that from 6.1.28 we have "fMuted=true" when restarting the VM (was fMuted=false before).

We would realy appreciate any help with the issue, either getting it fixed permanently, or in the mean time just a tip to get arround it, either on the host or guest side ?
(I tried vboxmanage controlvm XXXX audioin off then on without effect)

Thank You very much in advance :)
