Windows10-VM: 1920 x 1080 resolution not possible?

Post by RhinoxSim »

I have nice 4k screen (3840 x 2160), so I'd like to use full-hd (1920 x 1080) for my VMs. Unfortunatelly, I can not set this in VM/Windows10...

When I have "none" or "auto" in VB-Host -> File -> Preferences -> Display -> Maximum Guest Screen Size, in VM-W10 I get these options:
1920 x 1440, 1600 x 1200, 1400 x 1050, 1280 x 1024, 1280 x 960, 1152 x 864, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600

When I go to VB-Host -> File -> Preferences -> Display -> Maximum Guest Screen Size and change it to "Hint (1920 x 1080)", in VM (windows10) I get:
1400 x 1050, 1280 x 1024, 1280 x 960, 1152 x 864, 1024 x 768, 800 x 600

Is it not possible to use 1920 x 1080 display resolution in Windows10-VM? Guest additions are installed, of course...

BTW, in Linux-VM I have much more possibilities, from 640 x 480 up to 3840 x 2160 (including 1920 x 1080). So is this limit only for Windows10-VM?

This place is for setting the ... wait for it ... maximum guest screen size. It's to control how large a VM's screen can get.

This is good. You should then be able to use the VM window's View menu, Virtual Screen #, Resize to 1920x1080. "Auto-Resize Guest Display" might have to be unchecked. (Virtualbox's "monitor" is a 4:3 at first, so the typical 16:9 sizes don't show by default.)

If this does not work, please provide a VM log:

Start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.
