Speaker mute fails after save/restore state

When saving a VM with the volume muted and then restoring it, the guest OS still shows sound as muted however the mute is not working - sounds will resume at the normal volume. Unmuting and muting again restores the actual mute.

Just a minor annoyance when I'm managing multiple VMs and wondering where the noise is coming from

Has anyone encountered and/or resolved this one? Would logs be useful?

Windows 10 host, Windows Server 2012 guest, VirtualBox 6.1.32
Audio settings: host driver is Windows DirectSound, audio controller is Intel HD Audio.

I have the same issue with mute being ignored after normal guest shutdown/startup (Windows 10 host, Window 7 guest). It started with 5.0.26 and still exists as of 7.0.2. So, I continue to use 5.0.22.
