No higher resolutions available after W10 update

Post by yasny »

Hi,
after updating Windows10 on VM (20H2) I cannot run the virtual desktop with a resolution higher than 1280x960.
Tried with different settings, 1920x1080 forcing, turning on full screen - nothing helps.
I cannot force the resolution to a higher one, the options in the guest window are disabled.
What else should I check?

VirtualBox version 6.1.30
Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 6.1.30 r148432; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
Guest Additions information report: Version 6.1.30 r148432 '6.1.30'

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Guest Additions?

Start the VM from full power off, not save-state. Try to make the screen the size you want, then shut down the VM from within the VM OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks for the (unfinished) log.

Guest Additions are installed. I see the final 1280x960 resolution after boot, but no further attempts to change the resolution, because the log did not:

Please try the log again, this time trying to change the resolution and shutting down the OS per the instructions.

The log still has the same circumstances, 6.1.30 Guest Additions, no resolution changes and not showing a VM shutdown.
There is a mention of resolution size at 13:45-ish, but it always stays on 1280x960.

The disabled size change commands in the View menu seems to indicate that Guest Additions are not running correctly.

Please try uninstalling them, then install 6.1.28's GAs, see what happens: https://download.virtualbox.org/virtual ... 6.1.28.iso

I have very similar issue. Running 6.1.32. I have the following set:

Host:
Linux Mint 20.04
NVidia 3080Ti graphics
3 x 4k Samsung monitors

Guest:
Windows 10
Configured for two monitors
Running 6.1.32 Guest additions
Windows 10 Display adapter: VirtualBox Graphics Adapter.
Windows 10 monitors: Generic Non-PnP Monitor

Virtbox Manager Display Video Memory: 256MB, Screens: 2, Graphics Controller: VBoxSVGA

When I first launch the VM it stays at a small resolution even tho it is full screen. The trick to get it to resize correct so far is to do a bunch of right CTRL+L, CTRL+F to force it in/out of full screen. Eventually it will resize. But sometimes it will only resize the main monitor to the 3840x2126. Can take several reboots to get both to full size at times.

After multiple attempts and switching to full screen, I have the option to change the resolution again (Guest Additions 6.1.30).
Thanks for help.
