How to increase the access speed to shared folders from XP-Client?

Post by namo »

Hello,

How to increase the access speed of an XP client to shared folders of the host? I have an XP client and a WIN7 client running in Virtualbox. The access times from a WIN7 client to the shared folders of the host are much better than the access times from the XP client.

The access time from the XP client to its own VMS is very good. Only the access to the shared folders is slow.

It is probably due to the settings in the XP client. The settings in Virtualbox are comparable from my point of view.

Does anyone have a tip on this? Thank you very much.

Chris

VirtualBox GA shared folders are designed to get files in and out of a VM, speed has never been a priority. If you want good performance then you should configure a true network share.

Alright. So I need a domain to create a "real" network share. But that doesn't explain why with Windows7 access to the Shared Folders works so well.

Nothing you provided above shows that. The exact same infrastructure underlays the feature regardless of which OS you install in the VM.

Also note that version numbers that end in "_ubuntu" are not actually VirtualBox, they are part of the Ubuntu VirtualBox fork, and we will not be able to discuss those features here: for one thing we have no idea what they are.

I still think it is a problem of the settings in the guest machine Windows XP. Maybe I can find a solution to my problem after all. I will keep searching.

Many thanks to mpack.
