Deleting Iso's

Post by bonzillesgames »

After installing a guest os can you deleted the iso that you installed.

What I mean is if you installed Windows XP can you delete the XP iso from your PC or do you need to keep the iso on your PC

Thanks

You can delete the ISO. But if you ever need it again (maybe you'll want another VM or the OS will fail and need a reinstall) you will have to re-make it. Better to back it up to your backup disks so you can restore it one day.

An XP ISO is less than a gigabyte of disk space, peanuts on today's disk drives.

Way less. XP came on a single standard data CD, those have a max capacity of 640MB.

I agree it's best to keep the ISO around, perhaps on a backup drive. The one I just looked at is 593MB. Compression is not very effective on these since it contains a lot of compressed (CAB) files already.
