Windows 10 VM is crashing after booting. Can't repair.

Post by NairbEekcM »

I posted the log here: https://zerobin.net/?4a63bc4f0a33c020#1 ... BqVNf1sKQ=

I have no idea how to fix this but really need this VM.

I don't think any updates happened between boots, but it is possible. Windows can't uninstall any updates for reasons it does not mention.

Anyone know what's busted?

Something curious is happening in the log:

Looks like Guest Additions are toggling between 6.1.14 and 6.1.26. And when .26 is installed the VM BSODs.

Are you trying to update Guest Additions?

I think I ignored the update prompt this time because I was in a hurry to run a tool. I thought I'd run it at a later time. I wonder if I told it to install, then forgot the machine was running and then shut down my laptop while it was installing. That could be what happened.

I should be able to boot in safe mode and remove both versions, right?

I'll try that now and let you know.

Thanks so much for interpreting the log.

Update:

I booted into safe mode and removed 6.1.26 guest additions. 6.1.14 did not appear to be installed.

I rebooted and reinstalled 6.1.26 and it seems to be working now.

Considering the number of times I rebooted it trying to get it to work (at least 3), that must have done the trick. Either that or it fixed itself at some point.

At any rate, thanks Scott very much for your help. I really appreciate it.
