My Windows XP Pro Guest was working just fine in my Windows 10 Host, when the laptop battery died (Not “discharged” actually died.) When I plugged the laptop into line power, and tried to open my WXP guest, I got the following error message:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP Pro SP3.
The VM session was closed before any attempt to power it on.
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: SessionMachine
Interface: ISession {c0447716-ff5a-4795-b57a-ecd5fffa18a4}
The laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad 330-15IKB Touch
VBox Version 6.0.22 r 137980 (Qt5.6.2)
Guest additions have been installed.
Host version: Windows 10 64-bit OS 12GB RAM
Guest Version: Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit 192 MB base memory
I’m attaching the VBox.log
I appreciate any help!

Re: Failed to open a session for the VM Windows XP Pro
This probably means that you updated VirtualBox while this VM was in a saved state, the old saved state data is not compatible with the new version. You need to right click the VM and choose "Discard saved state".00:00:02.101127 ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80bb0004) aIID={872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed} aComponent={ConsoleWrap} aText={VM cannot start because the saved state file 'C:\Users\b45le\VirtualBox VMs\Windows XP Pro SP3\Snapshots\2021-06-11T00-35-48-306770000Z.sav' is invalid (VERR_SSM_INTEGRITY_FOOTER). Delete the saved state prior to starting the VM}, preserve=false aResultDetail=-1821
I suggest that you stop using saved states, there's really very little need for it. I think you can probably spare the additional 8 seconds out of your day that it takes to boot a VM without it.

Thank you very much for that solution. It worked perfectly! My wife is happy with me again! She can access our legacy apps on win XP. And yes, you're right: I can spare the 2 minutes+ it takes her slow computer to load WinXP, since it makes her happy!
Cheers!

Re: Failed to open a session for the VM Windows XP Pro
Thanks for reporting back, and I'm glad the solution worked for you.
2 minutes boot time seems a little slow. I just timed my own VM I made of my old working XP PC (i.e. lots of stuff installed, not a barebones XP), and it boots from a mechanical drive to the desktop in about 45 seconds. When moved to an SSD it takes 16 seconds. I don't use saved states so I don't really know what difference that makes. 8-10 seconds was a guess, and obviously on my SSD it can't be more than 16!
Unfortunately the log you already provided is too truncated to tell me anything useful. If you post a complete log (zipped) then I might be able to offer performance tips.
