Is it possible/safe to boot a real Win partition as guest from Linux host?

Post by wirespring »

I have a dual-boot Win10/Ubuntu system, with each OS residing on its own partitions on the same physical SSD.

As Linux is my go-to host OS, is it possible to make a VM that uses the real, existing Windows partitions in such a way that I could either continue to dual-boot, or simply load that exact Windows install as a VM from my Linux guest?

This thread seems to suggest you can at least use a native Win10 partition on the same SSD as the Linux host, but it's unclear if the "guest" partition can still be used natively if I tried to boot from it again afterward.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The only info I have on this concept comes from that topic you linked, see here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=103010&hilit=use+na ... on#p500791
