Map Shared Folder in Linux Host to Windows Guest with Drive Letter

Post by austin2359 »

I want to map a shared folder as my D drive. How do I do it?

I may have to config some things in the guest as well. I know that. I´m willing to do it.

First, make sure you don't already have a D drive in the VM. The CD drive often becomes D:\ in a Windows OS, after the system drive C:\. You can change the CD drive letter through usual Windows methods, web-search how to do so.

Then see https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04. ... mount_auto.

Alternatively, since you're willing to manually configure the VM OS, the Virtualbox Shared Folder can be found at the "network server" \\vboxsvr (That's in quotes because it does not really need a network and is not a real shared folder from the host OS. However, Windows Guest Additions makes the Virtualbox Shared Folder act like it's on a network so Windows can find it.)

You can manually map an available drive letter to the \\vboxsvr\sharedfolder through normal Windows methods, web-search how to do so.

You posted in "Linux Guests". Linux does not have drive letters.

I'm going to assume that the title is accurate even if the forum choice is not - and move your topic to "Windows Guests".
