WinXP on VBox 6.1.18 Freezes prior to Login screen

Post by TBruer »

We have a recently created VHD running Windows XP Professional 32-bit, version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600.

We installed the VHD as guest on a new laptop running Windows 10 as host and it runs perfectly.

Enable I/O APIC is enabled, Base Memory is 1GB, Video Memory is 128MB, Enabled 3D Acceleration is not enabled.

We installed the same VHD as guest on an older laptop also running Windows 10 as host and it freezes with a blue background and the mouse pointer visible but does not display the login screen and the mouse pointer does not respond to movement. Prior to increasing the video memory from 18 MB to 128MB it would freeze before changing to the blue background with the mouse pointer visible.

Enabling I/O APIC did not appear to make a difference.

I don't see a problem that I recognize in the posted log. There is this:
00:00:11.474378 PIIX3 ATA: LUN#0: IDLE IMMEDIATE, CmdIf=0xc4 (-1 usec ago)
00:00:11.474388 PIIX3 ATA: LUN#0: aborting current command
I don't know if it is a problem or normal.

Can you please post a vbox.log from the working VM for comparison?
