Windows 10 extremely slow on Virtualbox 6
I recently created a Windows 10 guest on the latest Virtualbox 6.1 on Lubuntu 20.04. It was extremely slow. Since I already created a win10 guest on a Lubuntu machine without problems, I checked the version and I saw that it was Virtualbox 5.
So I installed Virtualbox 5 and now I'm installing the guest. It seems the speed is not a problem.
If you need other information for debugging, I'm ready to help.

How so?Marco Sulla wrote:It was extremely slow.
Between 5.y.x (there's 3 y's and tons of x's, so just '5' is not descriptive enough) and 6.y.x (ditto) there were several changes, including video. And maybe Windows 10 itself.
Do the following for both the version 5.y.x and 6.y.x VMs:
Start the VM from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.
Please right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Re: Windows 10 extremely slow on Virtualbox 6
I just discovered that the problem was not Virtualbox 6, but the number of CPU cores. If I set a number > 1, the guest will slow down a lot. I'll open another thread about it.

Very odd that 10 did not do well on 2 processors, it usually does. You can keep posting here on the subject, it still fits this topic, in my opinion.
But we need a vbox.log to get a solid foundation to work from.

IMO that only happens if you also disabled the Paravirtualization Interface (which should be set to "Default" or "Hyper-v" for a recent Windows guest).Marco Sulla wrote:If I set a number > 1, the guest will slow down a lot
Zip and attach logs locally. I'm willing to help out, but I'm not signing up to any services to do it.

I'm aware. I've already spent all the time attempting to navigate the pastebin site that I intend to.Marco Sulla wrote: I mean, it's pastebin, it's quite famous...

@Marco Sulla, forum gurus won't go to third-party sites for logs and pictures that can be posted using the forum's Upload Attachment tab on the first day first post.
You received specific instructions above on how to post the log. If you want help, please follow them. If you don't wish to follow them, then we can all let this topic drop.

Since 5,y,x performed well and 6.y.x did not, we need to see both logs to help.scottgus1 wrote:Do the following for both the version 5.y.x and 6.y.x VMs:

The zip is attached. The logs are divided in two different folders.

Re: Windows 10 extremely slow on Virtualbox 6
First, you are not using VirtualBox - I'm afraid these forums only exist to support official Oracle VirtualBox releases, not third party builds such as the Ubuntu build you are using. This particularly matters when you are describing a performance problem, since the performance of third party builds simply isn't our concern.
Second, the 6.1.x log only shows 1 CPU core being assigned, making it difficult to diagnose the problem with multiple cores.
Please answer directly: what setting do you have for <VM settings>| System | Acceleration | Paravirtualization Interface.

I used the same settings from both the versions, so it's the 6.1 that automatically capped at 1 cpu for some reason.
How can I test the official Virtualbox on Linux?

Can I attach more information? Other logs, machine info, dmesg output.... I don't know.

You'd need to uninstall the Virtualbox you have now, then install the prerequisites https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq, then official Virtualbox https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_DownloadsMarco Sulla wrote:How can I test the official Virtualbox on Linux?

Re: Windows 10 extremely slow on Virtualbox 6
Paravirtualization Interface shows KVM in both logs, which would not be the correct setting. It should be 'Hyper-V'. I'm not sure if this would cause a slowdown, though it can't help.
The logs don't show any slow performance.

Neither log shows 2 processors, so we'd need a log with 2 processors for a decent comparison.Marco Sulla wrote:If I set a number > 1, the guest will slow down a lot.
