Excuse me, but IMHO it sounds simply like a Virtualbox 6.1 bug.

It may or may not be a VirtualBox bug, no need to argue about that.

But since the majority of VirtualBox users do not experience your problem, the differences between your setup and that of other users will probably be important. What do you think other people could or should do to investigate a problem that they cannot reproduce?

As far as I can see, we still do not have a process list from the guest.

It doesn't matter if VirtualBox has "a bug": CPU time doesn't just disappear, something is using it. It remains to be established that "something" is a VirtualBox process and not something else in the guest OS.

And bear in mind that all CPU use inside the guest appears as VirtualBox use to the host. That really tells us nothing much, apart from telling us that yes indeed: something is using a lot of CPU.

Another testing possibility: You're running Lubuntu, which is tuned for less host impact. If you can get another disk for the host PC, try installing a regular Ubuntu OS and official Virtualbox (and prerequisites) or even a test Windows 10 host OS (no need to activate) then try a fresh VM and see what the performance is.

Hello,

In case it works for someone, I have discovered that to execute the option:

$ VBoxManage modifyvm "VM machine name" --hpet on

It greatly increases the performance of Windows 10 virtual machines and reduces the load on the host.

The HPET option has been reported in the past, unfortunately ISTR it also causes instability in the guest OS. It could still be worth a try though.
