I have a storage drive for an os and it incredibly large. I am not sure how the actual size is more than twice. What am I missing.

Re: Actual Size of VHD is more than twice the size of Virtual
Is it perhaps a compressed VHD variant? What does VBoxManage list hdds say? And the Windows Explorer?

I am not sure if its compressed. It was created as a storage drive and attached it to a guest OS for email storage. Everything seems right except how large it is lolfth0 wrote:Is it perhaps a compressed VHD variant? What does VBoxManage list hdds say? And the Windows Explorer?

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten the long option: try VBoxManage list --long hdds.

I just created a new vdi and copied the files to it and remapped the label. I have resolved it the long way. It only shows 36gb used now lolfth0 wrote:Sorry, I seem to have forgotten the long option: try VBoxManage list --long hdds.

Do you have any other ideas how to resolve this issue?
I found out that this happened to me when I resized the VHD size - which resulted in increasing the actual size by the specified, desired disk size. Meaning that NEW DISK SIZE = OLD DISK SIZE + SPECIFIED DISK SIZE, see attached file
Simply copying the files to the new VHD is not a solution for me since I run out of free space because of this weird issue.

Sometimes the easiest solution may be the only one. You'll need to get more space. Can you borrow an external drive to store the copy?alivan wrote:Simply copying the files to the new VHD is not a solution for me since I run out of free space because of this weird issue.
