Guest Additions video drivers not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK
Hi, I am running a guest OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK on a Mac OS X. I run BETA3 r118015 and the video driver of VB does not install in the Guest Additions. Kernel configuration invalid error message in the boxadd-setup.log file. Linux version: Oracle Linux 7.4 Kernel version: 4.1.12-103.3.8.el7uek.x86_64.
I was never able to get the video driver to be installed properly for that kernel version neither in version 5.1.28, BETA2 and BETA3. I think there might be and issue with VB Guest Additions video driver UEL kernel version 4.1.12 with X11 version 1.19?
Thanks
Jean-Frs

Disable 3D acceleration in the display settings for the guest. From what I have found that is where the incompatibility is. AAFIK the DEVs are aware and are working on it.

I think the B3 additions may be corrupt. Check the file size and if it is not approx 60MB try the beta-2 and see if it works

Hi and thanks for your help, better yet I've installed the RC1, the Guest addition image is roughly 58MB, still no luck in installing it though. Included is the setup logfile.

Yeah but I really wanted you to try the one I listed. I have a concern that the GAs are having an issue since. I know the B2 one works from me.

Re: Guest Additions video drivers not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK
Hi, I used the link you provided to download the GA iso file, installed it, got the following error:
Copying additional installer modules ...
Installing additional modules ...
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Running kernel modules will not be replaced until the system is restarted
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Starting.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: modprobe vboxsf failed
Press Return to close this window...
and still no luck with the video driver.
Thanks for your cooperation
Jean-Frs

Re: Guest Additions video drivers not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK
This might take a while. I have not been able to get any GA to work properly since the one I posted that does work for me in 7.4. Debugging now but there are a lot of changes in VBox and in the RH kernel and they don't seem to want to play well together for some reason.

Hello Jean-François,
Some useful information would be the contents of any files under /var/log with "virtualbox" or "vbox" in some form in the name, as well as the output of "lsmod | grep box" and modinfo vboxvideo.
Regards
Michael

Hello Jean-François,
From the log you provided it actually looks as if everything was set up correctly. Could you please provide more information about what is going wrong?

Re: Guest Additions video drivers not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK
It would be good to see system log files, including the X server log file and the journal output. I'm afraid I can't remember where OL7 puts the X server log file, so you will have to find that yourself. And of course it would be good to test with 5.2.4, though I do not expect that to solve the problem.

Re: Guest Additions video drivers not loading on OEL7.4/OEL7.4UEK
IIRC most if not all issues with video were partially fixed in 5.2.4 ( with matching guest additions ). I just tested my OEL-7.4 ( 4.1.12-112.14.1.el7uek.x86_64 ) against the lastest SVN I have ( r70243 ) and resize functions properly as well as working with 3D acceleration enabled. Xorg.0.log is found in /var/log by the way. If it matters host has nVidia proprietary drivers on Linux host.
