Default Video memory Windows 7 guest.

Post by jslegers »

Hello,

I have just installed VB 5.1 RC1 and saw that the Default Video Memory for a Windows 7 guest was 27 Mb. Strange value. Can this be changed to 32 Mb?

On my system (OSX 10.9.5, VBox 5.1.0_rc1) the default VRAM is set at the minimum recommended which is 30 MB. Both 32- and 64-bit Win7. I agree that it should be 32 or 64 MB.

Yes indeed. I thought this was fixed :

Main: raised the initial values for RAM, VRAM and hard disk size for certain guests

Maybe an idea to make default VRAM for all Windows Guests 128 Mb ?

No, I disagree with that one. Never your defaults should be your max value. It should be the least amount required. Which is what happens I guess with WIn7. It was just as little bit odd to see 30 instead of 32 MB. It's ... rounder and prettier ;)

I found out that this is only with Windows 7, Windows Vista and XP.
Would be nice with the next update to make the VRAM default value to 32Mb.
