[Fixed] 5.0RC3, OS X host: Windows 7 guest won't start
After upgrading from RC2 (101271) to RC3(101436) my Win7 guest refuses to start on OS X host (Yosemite, 10.10.4). Screenshot of the error message is enclosed to here.
FWIW, I've tried both upgrading from previous build and clean installation, but to no avail. Of course, corresponding extension pack was installed as well. Downgraded to RC2 thus far.

No problem. The more reports about this the better.

It is really strange that internal testing didn't reveal this issue prior to publishing builds. Looks like OS X is treated as a 2nd class citizen.

To be fair, 10.10.4 did just come out and they may not test on the latest and greatest. Plus OSX is second class in a sense. Oracle probably has fewer paying OSX users and fewer OSX developers. As someone mentioned to me recently, we just have to be patient. (although it's getting really hard)

I am almost sure that build 101436 would expose the same behavior on 10.10.3 or even earlier version, and that in a pursue to fix issues reported for El Capitan preview (!) someone has broken the app on the released (!) versions of OS X. You know, how that works usually: fix for 10.11 has been verified, but nobody cared to test on 10.10.xloukingjr wrote:To be fair, 10.10.4 did just come out and they may not test on the latest and greatest. P.S. Maybe, their weak support of OS X is just because Mac users are willing to spend money for commercial-grade apps like Parallels or VMWare Fusion rather than look for free alternatives? Well, just kidding.
However, I myself bought the latest version of Fusion this spring, as it exposes much greater level of integration with platform than the freely available Virtualbox. And has definitely more polished UI and feels more native for OS X, at least, until version 5. But, ironically, Fusion is slow as hell with Win7 guest on Yosemite, being nowhere near to VirtualBox.

Same here, no guest, linux or windows, will start in RC3 on Mac OS X 10.10.4.
Downgrading to RC2 is the workaround.
