VMM: RHEL boot fails on Big-Iron; kernel panic

Post by Technologov »

Host: Debian Linux 8, VBox RC3, 48 CPUs (24 Core+HT), Intel Xeon Haswell. (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30GHz) + 288 GB of RAM.
Guest1: RHEL7, 24 CPU.
Guest2: RHEL5, 24 CPU.

Good news ! I could put a hands on one of the servers around. Big-Iron. Many-Cores. Lot'-t-a-RAM.

Problem: 24-way SMP RHEL 7 guest fails to boot with kernel panic.
This same guest boots & works fine with 8,16-way and (sometimes) 20-way SMP.

RHEL5 (x64) on the other hand, cannot init processor 18/24. Stucks forever on boot.
