What does it mean sometimes?
It goes out of minimization state like the stuff with mini-toolbar button or nothing happens at all?
This functionality should not depend on GA at all.
OK, in fact I don't really understand what's going on.

A few moments ago when I started my Windows XP guest, the second and subsequent Host + M presses worked (the first one didn't).

Then after I reverted to a previous snapshot several times, Host + M stopped working completely - i.e. it minimizes only to maximize again right after.

Edit: Oh, it's now working again. I guess it's some kind of race condition between VirtualBox/KWin/X11 server. Never mind.

Actually I was able to reproduce that one behavior as you described. Thanks!
I think I found a way to fix that without heavy rework, will you be able to test on your side?

Best regards!

By the way, please let me know if the newly added systemd support works as it should.

The same erratic behavior with this build, i.e. Host + M sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Wanted to ask if the issue is finally fixed for you within the latest 5.0.2?
I reworked that stuff a lot, that is fixed for me, hope for your positive response :D

FWIW, Host+M works for me with VB 5.0.2 on a Ubuntu 15.04 host. Tested with a Ubuntu 15.04 guest and a Windows 10 guest.
