Sorry if I wasn't clear -- I meant you're probably the first trying to collect a VBox core dump on 10.11. Yes, I tried a 5.0 build on 10.11 and had no trouble starting a VM from the GUI.

I see. I wonder which 5.0 build that was.

I'm getting confused…

From a week ago…
michaln wrote:Yesterday I installed the 10.11 DP (or beta or whatever it's called nowadays) and was able to install VirtualBox 4.3.28 without any complaint from the OS. I haven't tried any 5.0 build. I did not make any prior changes, it was a completely clean install of 10.11 in a freshly formatted partition.

As you already mentioned, VirtualBox couldn't see any USB devices, and I'm not sure about the bridged/host-only networking functionality.
So here is where things stand for me with OS X 10.11 (15A204h)…

1. VB 4.3.28 Installs and runs.
2. VB 4.3.29, 5.0 RC1 and RC2 won't install.
3. The post RC2 build r101390 will install but I can only launch guests from the terminal using…

Code: Select all

/Applications/VirtualBox.app/Contents/MacOS/VirtualBox -startvm VM_NAME

Installed RC3. Same problem

I also did a clean install of OSX 10.11 on an external partition then installed RC3. Same problem.

From the RC3 announcement…

Since guests run normally when started directly from the terminal, I'm thinking however guests are launched from the GUI, a typo was introduced at some point.

Or it could be related to this which I posted before…

Code: Select all

7/2/15 4:26:56.725 AM VirtualBox[4469]: WARNING: The Gestalt selector gestaltSystemVersion is returning 10.9.0 instead of 10.11.0. This is not a bug in Gestalt -- it is a documented limitation. Use NSProcessInfo's operatingSystemVersion property to get correct system version number.
I'm thinking it might be important for VB to know which version of OSX it's running on.

I was mistaken about launching guests through the terminal. There are a number of problems with that method including losing connections.

Personally I have given up on VB 5.0 until I'm sure it works on OSX 10.11. Have rolled back to VB 4.3.28.

So far so good. :D

I would have said something sooner but I fainted.

I'm not sure but it may be necessary to reboot after installing before trying to run any guests. The first guest I tried crashed the host but once restarted it seems fine so far. It could have just been an anomaly. Will be testing further.

Many Linux guests do not remember their previous window size once shutdown. VB 5.0 RC3 r101470.
