Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)

Post by hSchulz »

I am using a USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter (ASIX) in a Mint 17.1 guest on a Win 8.1 host.
After hibernation mode the USB adapter is not working anymore (Happens also in VMWare Player)
After removing the device vmware crashes

Is it vmware player that crashes, virtualbox that crashes, or both? vmware info doesn't really help anything in a virtualbox forum btw.

Virtuabox crashes. Otherwise i would have not posted it here.
The reference to VMWare only should make clear, that the misfunction of the USB Ethernet adapter after wakeup seems to be a more basic problem.
By the way, i found that the crash happens everytime i remove the ASIX controller from the guest, while i can remove a USB 3.0 disk drive.

you can see my confusion.

What more basic problem? With your host? Your guest? Your adapter? Hypervisors in general?

A log and/or screenshots showing a crash would be useful I'm sure.

Click on the menu item "ASIX Elec. Corp. AX88179 [0100]" to virtually unplug it from the guest system, then the following crash happens.

I don't know, I'm looking at the device right now and it's not causing my VirtualBox to crash.

Could you please be a lot more specific?

The sequence of steps required to reproduce the problem. I don't even know if your problem has anything to do with hibernation. In short, guessing does not lead to fixes.

And obviously VBox.log as well.

I have to mention that my crash is nothing to do with windows hibernation!!

steps to reproduce is fairly simple:
1. as shown in the previous picture, choose ASIX device to connect to guest OS
2. choose ASIX again to disconnect from guest OS. It crashes immediately.

BTW the following is my guest OS setting:

It is not very helpful to mix different problems :( You should have created a separate topic, but now it's too late...
steps to reproduce is fairly simple:
1. as shown in the previous picture, choose ASIX device to connect to guest OS
2. choose ASIX again to disconnect from guest OS. It crashes immediately.
OK, what exactly is the guest OS (OS version/exact kernel), and does the device work in the guest or not?
BTW the following is my guest OS setting:
The screenshot is unfortunately pretty useless. What we really need is VBox.log for the VM, not VBoxSVC.log. VBox.log contains all the information in the screenshot and a lot more. Please zip up before attaching, the log file is probably fairly large. Thanks.

In the Guest OS, the ASIX usb ethernet NIC works perfectly.

Attached are 3 Vbox.log files. I don't which one has the crash context information. If none of them has the crash, I can regenerate the crash and upload the vbox.log tomorrow.
