Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
I am using a USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter (ASIX) in a Mint 17.1 guest on a Win 8.1 host.
After hibernation mode the USB adapter is not working anymore (Happens also in VMWare Player)
After removing the device vmware crashes

Re: Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
Is it vmware player that crashes, virtualbox that crashes, or both? vmware info doesn't really help anything in a virtualbox forum btw.hSchulz wrote: After removing the device vmware crashes

Re: Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
Virtuabox crashes. Otherwise i would have not posted it here.
The reference to VMWare only should make clear, that the misfunction of the USB Ethernet adapter after wakeup seems to be a more basic problem.
By the way, i found that the crash happens everytime i remove the ASIX controller from the guest, while i can remove a USB 3.0 disk drive.

you can see my confusion.hSchulz wrote:After removing the device vmware crashes
What more basic problem? With your host? Your guest? Your adapter? Hypervisors in general? The reference to VMWare only should make clear, that the misfunction of the USB Ethernet adapter after wakeup seems to be a more basic problem.

Re: Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
A log and/or screenshots showing a crash would be useful I'm sure.
Re: Virtualbox crash (not related to windows hibernation)
Click on the menu item "ASIX Elec. Corp. AX88179 [0100]" to virtually unplug it from the guest system, then the following crash happens.

Re: Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
I don't know, I'm looking at the device right now and it's not causing my VirtualBox to crash.
Could you please be a lot more specific?

Re: Virtualbox crash (after windows hibernation)
The sequence of steps required to reproduce the problem. I don't even know if your problem has anything to do with hibernation. In short, guessing does not lead to fixes.justincui wrote:What information do you need?
And obviously VBox.log as well.
Re: Virtualbox crash
I have to mention that my crash is nothing to do with windows hibernation!!
steps to reproduce is fairly simple:
1. as shown in the previous picture, choose ASIX device to connect to guest OS
2. choose ASIX again to disconnect from guest OS. It crashes immediately.
BTW the following is my guest OS setting:

It is not very helpful to mix different problems You should have created a separate topic, but now it's too late...justincui wrote:I have to mention that my crash is nothing to do with windows hibernation!!
OK, what exactly is the guest OS (OS version/exact kernel), and does the device work in the guest or not?steps to reproduce is fairly simple:
1. as shown in the previous picture, choose ASIX device to connect to guest OS
2. choose ASIX again to disconnect from guest OS. It crashes immediately.
The screenshot is unfortunately pretty useless. What we really need is VBox.log for the VM, not VBoxSVC.log. VBox.log contains all the information in the screenshot and a lot more. Please zip up before attaching, the log file is probably fairly large. Thanks.BTW the following is my guest OS setting:
