No Drag n Drop Linux Host

Post by loukingjr »

Tried Drag n Drop, Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon host, Lubuntu 14.04.2 and Windows 7 guests. Didn't work in either direction. I'm not sure if dragging from host to a Lubuntu guest ever worked because of its PCManFM file manager.

Did you enable drag'n drop in the VM menu?

Yes, bidirectional.

It doesn't give any errors. If you try and drag a file from a guest it won't let you drag it beyond the guests window border. if you try and drag a file from the host to a guest, the file just snaps back to it's origin.

Please note that on X(11) the DnD specification isn't exactly set in stone, so there are different protocols around, and VBox tries to use the most common one.
Did you try DnD with other files manager, e.g. with the official Ubuntu/Mint ones?

Well no, because I don't have an Ubuntu guest installed. I can but I'd bet it doesn't work since it doesn't work with a Win7 guest either... :)

However, as in my previous post, DnD doesn't work on my OSX host.

Interesting. I successfully dragged a file from a Ubuntu 14.10 host to a Ubuntu 15.04 guest. Although a dialog box opened and said "Failed to drop data" despite the fact that it had. :D

It failed to drag to a Windows 7 guest however as before.

I thought about this reply since yesterday and had a comment. First let me say I'm not upset and I do understand how difficult development is and that it takes time.

I wanted to point out the the reply leads one to believe that if the proper settings are used drag n drop would work. That isn't the case.

Thanks for listening. :)
