VirtualBox 3.1.0 -- Known Issues

Post by frank »

As already mentioned we were not able to address all of the problems which were reported during the Beta phase. Some known problems are
  • (Windows?) SMP guests with VBox on Ubuntu/Karmic are slow. The reason is that the Ubuntu guys decreased the frequency of the host timer from 250 Hz (Jaunty) to 100 Hz (Karmic) which makes it more difficult for VBox to properly handle timeouts resulting in a higher load.
  • USB on 64-bit Windows hosts is probably still broken. There was some work and the situation should be improved with VBox 3.1.0 but we are quite sure that there are still problems
  • virtio-net problems with some SMP guests, use PCnet or E1000 if you experience problems.
  • non-native Vista buttons for the Windows installer and for some Windows dialogs
  • Long directory names shown in DOS notation on Windows hosts. Actually we were not able to reproduce this problem yet.
  • Guest additions still report the version number of the interface (which is currently 1.4), not the real version
  • Storage UI: there is still room for discussion
  • Storage UI: CD/DVD-ROM devices can only be attached to an IDE controller so far as support for CD/DVD-ROM on SATA and SCSI is not implemented yet
  • Storage UI: Passthough setting not stored permanently (3.1.0 regression)
I will edit this list and add some more items once my head cleans up a bit ...
