300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
Just upgraded from 300b1 which worked fine, but now on beta2 if i run my guest with more than one cpu and a shared folder enabled (doesn't even have to be mounted in the guest) windows explorer totally hangs the guest, you can't even kill the process or shutdown.

Did you reinstall the ga?
Some say: "You learn as long as you live".
My way: "You live as long as you learn".

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
I have just installed beta 2 on an Ubuntu 8.04 host with a Windows XP SP3 guest. I am running with 2 cores assigned to the guest (Quad Core Dell Host) and XP is seeing 2 cores.
Shared folders seem to be working find for me.
I did uninstall the beta 1 GA and install the beta 2 GA.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
i upgraded my ga's from 2.2.4 to 3.0.0b2 directly, maybe that didn't help, i tried uninstalling and re-installing, and it made no difference.
i also noticed in the changelog:
# Shared Folders: sometimes a ?le was created using the wrong permissions (2.2.0 regression; bug #3785)
well i've just noticed a lot of files created read-only for some reason, so maybe this isn't fixed after all.....?
also the experimental direct3d support doesn't work, dxdiag only allows you to enable/test directdraw.
EDIT: just tried another win2k3 vm that is still running the 300b1 additions with 4 cpu's configured, and it now hangs when you access a shared folder, so its a problem with the beta2 code, not the additions themselves.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
anyone from sun care to weigh in on this one?
or anyone else find the same issue - it could just be win2003 based, as most people on here are using xp it seems.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
I have the same issue here. Activating SMP freezes my Windows XP Prof. SP2 guest when I try to read or write to the shared folder, despite it sometimes works without problems: Writing seems to reliably freeze the system, whereas just reading the folder contents works mostly.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
thank goodness its not just me, was starting to think it was something wrong with my 2003 install.m@riposa wrote:I have the same issue here. i've even tried reverting to beta1, and it still doesn't work if i enable 2 or 4 cores, have to stick to 1.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
Same problem here with Host Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 and Windows XP SP2 with SMP. The explorer hangs in most cases when accessing the shared folder and always if a big file is copied or opened.
It seems to work without SMP and IO-APIC.

io-apic makes no difference to me, but if i even click the mapped drive icon my system hangs, i don't even have to read from the folder!unggnu wrote:Same problem here with Host Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 and Windows XP SP2 with SMP. smp needs to go in the bin i think, back to 2.2.4

Are there any news regarding this matter? I have the same issue on 3.0.4, Windows XP host and Linux guests.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
I have tried it, but not for this issue. I have to install 3.0.6 Beta again on another partition with a second windows installation since I changed my harddisk. I am going to post if it is working or not with the 3.0.6 Beta tomorrow.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
I tried now with the 3.0.6 Beta and an Ubuntu 9.04 guest. The guest froze almost immediately when I tried to copy a tar of my thunderbird profile, so nothing has changed yet.

Re: 300 beta2 - smp breaks shared folders
i just tried it with 3.0.6 final and its still broken, i couldn't even copy a text file with 4 cpu's enabled. it didn't hang the guest - only the dos prompt window.

turning off smp support makes it whiz along.
