Even possible to use raw disks or iSCSI?

Post by Tomservo »

Whenever I try to use either ZVOLs (pretend raw disks) or iSCSI (because ZVOLs don't work), I always get greeted with VERR_IO_GEN_FAILURE. Both the ZVOL and iSCSI target work, as I can access and use them with other tools. Furthermore, trying to use iSCSI doesn't even generate syslog traffic, thus why I'm asking if it's even supported at all.

--edit: I think it's VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER for ZVOLs. Nonetheless, they don't work.

Thanks.

Nevermind regarding iSCSI. I've found the problem, which I do indeed consider a problem. When a target portal group is specified on the iSCSI target, VirtualBox fails. Target portal groups are however necessary to bind the target to specific IP addresses.

With 1.6 I suddenly can boot operating systems now, but iSCSI blew up big time. Whatever I do, it won't work.

--edit: But suddenly I can make ZVOLs work...
