Installing VirtualBox on S10U4? Worked on S10U3.

Post by franktarz »

I'm having trouble getting VirtualBox to run on my S10U4 host.

I've installed VirtualBox-opensolaris-amd64-1.5.51-r28040-beta1 on a
fresh install of S10U4 that is current with regard to patches.

I follow the instructions in
http://unixsadm.blogspot.com/2008/02/vi ... ation.html
and installed the 64-bit version of /lib/amd64/libdlpi.so.1.

I can create virtual machines, but when I try to start one I get:

Unable to load R3 module /opt/VirtualBox/VBoxDD.
VBox status code: -102 (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {d5a1cbda-f5d7-4824-9afe-d640c94c7dcf}

These instructions worked fine for my S10U3 box but don't for S10U4.

Anyone had success under S10U4?

Hello,

I had the same error on Solaris 10u4. The cause was a wrong sunwcslr_5.11.82-1_solaris-i386.deb package. The link on the unixsadm.blogspot.com-Tutorial now points to an newer version of the file (sunwcslr_5.11.85-1_solaris-i386.deb package). After downloading the correct version (sunwcslr_5.11.82-1_solaris-i386.deb) it works on my machine. I've installed Vista 32Bit and it works, but sometimes Vista crashes.

There seems to be a problem with memory-management; when i start the Vista-VM, nearly all of my memory gets eaten up (4GB RAM + 1,8 GB Swap-Space)

You were right!. I managed to recover the older version of libdlpi.so from my old system and now VirtualBox is running.

I noticed that you can't find the sunwcslr_5.11.82-1_solaris-i386.deb version on http://archive.nexenta.org anymore. The links to this version are all broken. And the http://apt.nexenta.org/dists/unstable/m ... i386/base/ page doesn't list it anymore either.

The version of sunwcslr_5.11.82-1_solaris from http://www.nexenta.org/apt/dists/stable ... i386/base/ worked fine for me.

Here's my LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
/export/build/vbox:/opt/VirtualBox:/opt/VirtualBox/qtgcc/lib:/lib/amd64

where /export/build/vbox holds the symlink libdlpi.so and library libdlpi.so.1

Follow the instructions at http://unixsadm.blogspot.com/2008/02/vi ... ation.html

I extracted the 64-bit version of libdlpi.so.1 and its symlink and placed them in a directory by themselves. Then I put that directory at the head of LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Executed /opt/VirtualBox/VirtualBox and have been running since then without incident.

Hope this helps.
