VirtualBox disk images on ZFS - cloning disk fails

Post by vita »

Hi, I'm trying to use ZFS to make use of compressions/snapshots and clones. I created following ZFS dataset layout for virtual hard disks. Each dataset contains one .vdi file.
Compression + snapshots are working. Then I tried to clone a dataset containing vdi file. This was ok and I tried to configure a new guest with the cloned .vdi file. Unfortunately this is final stop. It failed, with error message:

A hard disk with UUID {ee4f2e93-8747-4534-d087-9decefef75ec} or with the same properties ('/tank/vbox/nhas_inst_server/snv_84.vdi') is already registered.

Apparently the cloned disk has same UUID as it's zfs clone of the original disk.
How do I change the UUID of cloned disk? I wonder if VirtualBox could be enhanced to not require unique UUID - e.g. by taking FS path into account.

Thanks in advance,

Vita
