Lost video resizing in 4.0.8

Post by apljavaman »

I've just upgraded to 4.0.8 on Solaris 11 Express with a Win 7 x64 client. It seems like I've lost the ability to dynamically resize the screen or get any resolution better than 1400 x 1050.

Yes, I re-installed Guest Additions for 4.0.8. It's acting like Guest Additions isn't installed (I'm also not seeing the GA icon down in the taskbar).

I have an XP client that seems to work just fine still.

Anybody else see these symptoms?

The icon isn't hidden? If there really is no icon, then it might have been removed or it crashes when it tries to load. Check the Start Menu > All Programs to see if the GA are still installed. Then check the Machine menu and determine if the GA are working. If they are, you should have access to Automatic Resize and Seamless Mode. If they are greyed out, it means the GA aren't active and you need to fix that. Either install the GA again, or remove them, reboot the Guest and install them again.

Doh...Forgot to unhide the icon...yes it is there, but unresponsive. I can click all I want and nothing happens.

And, poor choice of words on my part on the original posting. GA is installed, and I'm seeing the enhanced mouse pointer functionality, and my screen resolution has increased to the 1400x1050, but no more.

Anyways, I unintalled GA, rebooted, then re-installed GA. Same behavior.

Oh, just for grins, I reverted the client back to GA 4.0.6 and I've lost resizing in their as well..., so I'm assuming that this is a function of the 4.0.8 release and how it interacts with the GA.

No, you probably disabled Automatic Resize. Press Host+G or use the Machine menu to enable it.

Okay, the good news is that it is now working...the bad news is that the sequence I executed should not have directly fixed anything.

Based on your comment, I noticed that Auto-resize Guest Display was grayed out. Since I hadn't played with some of the other settings I tried Switch to Scale Mode...oops...not what I wanted. Quit VM, and restarted...NOW the Auto-resize Guest Display was no longer disabled. I selected the option and voila! I now have my expected functionality.

So, not sure why that sequence fixed things, but it did. Thanks for the hints...but I still don't understand why the option was initially disabled (note that it was disabled vice not selected)
