Experimental support for USB ports

Post by CelticMelodies »

I realise USB support is only experimental (ref. help docs), but is there any workaround at all if it does not initially work?

I'm getting a 'Could not load Host USB proxy service' error.

************* EDIT - have just read the previous post, so it's gone, fiddlesticks :|

Running this command is offered as a solution on some posts:

pfexec /opt/VirtualBox/ipsinstall.sh

However that just results in the error:

* Warning!! Solaris 5.11 snv_124 or higher required for USB support. Skipped installing USB support.

Can I upgrade to snv_124?

Am about to translate this page and see what it says:

The reason it was marked as "experimental" was because USB in general varies with each device and at that time of 3.1 beta release VirtualBox's USB support for Solaris did not get much testing.

Since then we've got more people testing/using the USB support, and as a result has been improved a lot. For example, since the initial 3.1.0 (or beta? iirc) support for devices like the Apple iPhone & iPod were added. Having said that, USB webcams/soundcards (or other isochronous devices) are still very sketchy as I've only managed to pump out half as much performance out of these as required.

Regarding your question on upgrading, yes you can upgrade to snv_124 or above. If you're on 2009.06 you can upgrade with something like:

Code: Select all

pfexec pkg set-publisher -O http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev opensolaris.org
pfexec pkg image-update
Oracle Corp.
