I am contemplating replacing my desktop machine to another machine, i.e. from my
oldish Dell box to an x2100. An x2100 is not exactly a desktop machine but it is already in my possession
and every time I ask for a more suitable desktop, I get "we'll see" from the powers that be.
I was wondering whether my VMs will work if I just rsync everything in my home directory (including .VirtualBox
obviously) over to the new machine. I don't need them to remain running or anything like that. The
new machine will get my current desktop's host name, but I can't really determine from the docs whether
anything else about this move would require that I clone the VMs to move them.
How to move all of my vdi's to a new machine

That's assuming that your VDI and Machine directories are in their default location as a subdirectory of .VirtualBox or at least under your home folder. Also make sure that you've powered off all of your VMs. They can get confused if the CPU architecture changed when in a paused state.
