Running OpenSolaris SXCE 127 and installed VirtubalBox 3.1. De-installed v3.0.10, reboot and install v3.1

Started WindowsXP VirtualBox Window and logged in. Plugged in a USB stick (plugged a phone first but that has never worked) and OpenSolaris mounts the USB stick on my desktop, but no device appears in Devices -> USB Devices -> <no devices available>

I have included VBox.log and /var/adm/messages (message.log). I may try a fresh reboot of OpenSolaris just in case, since it has not be rebooted since the 3.1 install.

Just did a complete reboot and no difference.

Perhaps you could try to adjust the permissions to /dev/vboxusbmon (it should be a+rw / 0666)

You seem to be on the right lines but not quiet there yet, but I will do a restart just in case when I get back to work and my desktop tomorrow (doing this via ssh now)!

Code: Select all

Thanks it now works.

I guess the last de-install / install did something to the permissions.

I doubled checked and did a complete de-install and re-install and it did set the permission correctly this time.

Thanks again

May be I was jumping the gun, since still have problems getting the USB device available in my WindowsXP virtualbox window.

1) Plug USB stick into my OpenSolaris system
2) It mounts it

Code: Select all

UUID: df2d33bd-90fc-4804-93c6-cddc7bb727dd
VendorId: 0x13fe (13FE)
ProductId: 0x1d20 (1D20)
Revision: 1.16 (0116)
Manufacturer:
Product: USB DISK Pro
SerialNumber: 07720F5F0CDE
Address: 0x13fe:0x1d20:272:/pci@0,0/pci108e,5351@1d,7
Current State: Busy
3) In the previous version all I did was, Device ->USB Devices -> USB DISK Pro and it would appear, but now OpenSolaris umounts the device.

4) VBoxManage list usbhost shows Captured for a few seconds

Code: Select all

UUID: 451bb897-b777-4e31-97a1-a3ecfb1e7d0f
VendorId: 0x13fe (13FE)
ProductId: 0x1d20 (1D20)
Revision: 1.16 (0116)
Manufacturer:
Product: USB DISK Pro
SerialNumber: 07720F5F0CDE
Address: 0x13fe:0x1d20:272:/pci@0,0/pci108e,5351@1d,7
Current State: Captured
5) Then it disappears "VBoxManage list usbhost" shows no device... and during this time I do not see no changes to windows XP.

I guess what is the correct procedure. I have not tried the filter yet, since I want the choice of which System captures the USB device..

Thanks again,

Andrew

no answer? So, VirtualBox doesn't support USB under Opensolaris?

Not very cool?

Hello,

sorry for my quitness... I doesn't have enough time to write more about my Virtualbox-USB troubles....

But today I tested the beta version 3.1.1 on opensolaris snv_127.....
http://www.virtualbox.org/download/test ... 671.tar.gz

I had sucess with a usb stick.
I had sucess with Aladdin etoken...

That seem's to be the version of virtualbox I'm locking for a long time ;-)

Thank you ;-)

VirtualBox 3.1.1 fixed the problem for me. USB devices are now appearing.

Thanks again for such a quick turn around.

WOW! :D I know I have already said that USB works with v3.1.1, but my Blackberry works as well.

It did take a couple of reboots, but I am at a stage now that I can bin my old Windows box sitting next to my desk

Well done and a BIG thanks....
