Virtual Box on OS/2 TAP Driver problem

Hello,

I am using Virtualbox on two OS/2 systems (eCS 2.0RC4 and eCS 1.2MR). On one of the systems I had to remove the TAP driver using MPTS because it was interfering with the Host's networking. There were various symptoms, including blocking Thunderbird from retrieving mail and causing horrendously slow Firefox performance.This occurred even when Virtualbox was not running. This is on a a stock HP Compaq Deskpro running eCS 1.2MR that has worked flawlessly for years. When I removed the TAP driver, the symptoms vanished completely.

Any ideas?

I haven't seen this symptom. I'm curious about a couple things in your config, though:

• What driver are you using for your NIC?
  How many cards do you have configured in MPTS?
  What protocols do you have bound to your physical NIC(s)?
  When you installed the TAP driver, what protocols did you bind to it?
  In vbox, how did you configure networking (NAT, host, etc.)?

I might be able to provide some more assistance if I have some more details.

TCPIP

When you installed the TAP driver, what protocols did you bind to it?
TCPIP

In vbox, how did you configure networking (NAT, host, etc.)?
Host interface

I have not been able to get the TAP driver to work with the native Broadcom driver. I suggest you use GenMAC for this. I was previously using version 8.28 of the the B57 driver, from November of 2005 (later drivers had other issues for me). I am currently using the W14E4X167D wrapper, with the 8.39.1.0.A version of the Windows driver, dated 9/27/2005.
