PXE Booting from a server (Ubuntu platform)

Post by Wickd »

Hi there.

I suppose this could be considered as a weird question, but I have a little master plan. Hehe. We currently use Clonezilla at work to clone images at the speed of light, but it is quite a lengthy story to convert it to an image file so that the contents can be edited.

So I thought why not use Virtualbox OSE and send an image to it, edit it and then send it back as an image? Since my Clonezilla Server is on the same box as that of my Virtualbox I had to do a bridge the vbox network to the my eth2 interface. This interface is in turned connected to a 8 port hub with the eth1 interface acting as an DHCP server.

So to sum it up the vbox is on the clonezilla server. the vbox gets an ip address by bridging to the eth2 interface, which in turn is connected to a hub, with my eth1 interface (Also on server) Acting as an DHCP Server.

I then proceed to PXE boot and it gets an IP address fine, but the boot is ridiculously slow....

What could be the problem behind this?

Thanks
