Shared folder and live-cd

Post by Ra0 »

Hi !

Question is : how to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions tools when the guest OS is running from a liveCD ?

I'm using VirtualBox on my host (Suse 10.2) to run a guest (Kubuntu Live CD). The guest OS is booting from an ISO file (which is mounted as a CD/DVD in my guest settings). Doing so, since the CD/DVD is busy by the running OS, it seems not possible for VirtualBox to unmount this device to mount the image of VirtualBox additions...

And so, no way to install the additional tools.

And so, no way to share folders between my guest and host.

Any idea how I could access data on my host, from my guest OS ?

If you've got internet on your guest: download the additions somewhere.

You could also create a small HD .vdi file and try to extract the additions .iso file on it, but I only know 1 way to do so: unmount your livecd once (temporarily install an os).

Thank you for answer.
I dont know where on the Web I could find the addons to download.

Anyhow, I think I can find a way to extract the content of the ISO and make it readable in my guest.
